    From the ACC'S site:

Scoring GP FG 3PG FT PTS AVG
    1. Malcolm Delaney-VT JR 24 136 46 167 485 20.2
    2. Jon Scheyer-DU SR 26 144 73 135 496 19.1
    3. Greivis Vasquez-MD SR 25 164 51 92 471 18.8

Scheyer is ahead of Vasquez in every category except FG% and ahead of Delaney in every category except scoring. And if you look Scheyer has played in two more games than Delaney which drops his PPG and is the reason he is behind him there.

    Head to head:

    ...........................................3 Pt..........................Rebounds
    ............................FG-FGA....FG-FGA...FT-FTA.......Off Def Tot PF.....TP....A..TO..Blk..Stl..Min
    30 Jon Scheyer g........6-12.......3-4........7-8............1...2....3...1.......22....1...1...0. ....0...36
    21 Greivis Vasquez g....7-12.......2-3........1-2............3...4....7...4......17.....4...3...0. ...1...33

Thanks for being redundant. Now, if you will look above you will see what the two players have done in conference play. Notice that Mr. Vasquez is blowing Scheyer out of the water? If you would like I can post Delaney's numbers as well, he's beating Scheyer to death as well. Scheyer will win it because the North Carolina schools and media run the ACC.

Since Vasquez is UM;s only scorer, teams are scheming to stop him, since he is their only big threat, therefore he has to work 2x as hard for his points, unlike Scheyer, who has help on offense to keep the defenses from singling him out.
It's actually the other way around most of the time, let the main guy get his, then shut down the lesser players...which is easier and smarter, instead of chasing one player around.

um, no. thats not true at all.

when a team relys on vasquez like UM does, you HAVE to stop him. if he gets off, UM wins more often than not.

at the NBA level it might be like that, but when a team relys on a player like UM does so hard, when he gets going the team gets going, and they are tough to beat.

when he is shut down, they lose more often than not.

If a player is a play-maker, he will find the open guy(which there will be probably every time down the court with that defensive strategy) and the rest of Marylands team can hit an open shot, no matter who they are. It's easier to shut down 3 other players, let Vasquez get his(not leave him unguarded or anything, but nothing focused) and the other have a decent IF he does. That makes sense when dealing with not a scorer, but an all around good play-maker. I have a hard time believing that there was teams that took that approach this year.

This coming from a diehard Duke fan........at this point I would vote for Vasquez, he will go on and play in the NBA.

your approach was that teams were scheming to let Vas. get his and stop the rest of the team, meaning teams didnt specifically scheme to stop Vasquez.
